SCH at MS4SF Climate Health Equity Day 2026

The co-directors of the Stanford Climate and Health program attended the MS4SF Climate Health Equity Day 2026 conference in Arlington, Virginia!

  • Sebastian Pintea presented his poster, "Overlooked Toll of Climate Change on Migrant Children in the Americas," sharing insights from his research.
  • Riya Bhatia and Julianne Park presented their poster, "Building Community-Led Resilience: A Tailored Intervention for Extreme Heat in North Fair Oaks," highlighting their project from last summer.

Healing Without Harm: Greening the Healthcare System

CLIMATE WEEK PANEL

Stanford experts and healthcare leaders gathered to discuss sustainable practices in hospitals, focusing on reducing waste, emissions, and resource use while maintaining high-quality patient care. Panelists explored strategies in operating rooms, procurement, infrastructure, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The discussions were engaging, and the audience was diverse, raising thought-provoking questions that enriched the conversation.

Bringing Resilience Home: Distributing Extreme Heat Kits to North Fair Oaks

Stanford Climate & Health, in partnership with Climate Resilient Communities, hosted an Extreme Heat Resilience event in North Fair Oaks. Alongside distributing specially designed heat kits, the event featured demonstrations on how to stay safe in high temperatures, with Dr. Patel and Dr. LaBeaud sharing health guidance on coping with extreme heat.

Throughout the spring and early summer, Stanford Climate & Health worked to gather resources: handheld fans, power banks, medicine cooling pouches, and more. With funding from the Haas Center and Stanford Medicine, support from the Center for Human and Planetary Health, and donations of visors and bags from Stanford Athletics, the event was a success. The workshop began with a disaster preparedness demonstration by the San Mateo Emergency Department, followed by a presentation on the health impacts of heat events by Dr. Lisa Patel and Dr. Desiree LaBeaud. The community was eager to ask questions, engage with the doctors, and share their own experiences. Volunteers from Stanford, working alongside CRC, helped distribute resources to over sixty residents of North Fair Oaks, equipping the community with tools to stay safe during extreme heat...
